Julia Child once said, “A party without cake is just a meeting”. At Hearthstone Kitchen and Cellar, we heartily agree, and we’ll even raise that sentiment by adding that we think that no dinner is complete without dessert!

With National Cake Day  November 26th (yes, really), it’s the perfect time to explore the fantastic cakes offered at our Summerlin restaurant. We feature a number of different cakes on our dessert menu, each one more tempting than the last. Here, we’ll offer an introduction to our beloved cakes, which are the perfect finish to your meal on National Cake Day, naturally, but every other day, too!

November 26th: National Cake Day. It’s not a dream, so no need to pinch yourself: November 26th is an actual holiday dedicated to cake. While the origins of National Cake Day are hazy, we’re not complaining; while technically there’s no wrong day to eat cake, it’s nice to have official permission from the government to do so!

Dessert at Hearthstone Kitchen and Cellar. At Hearthstone, we’re known for our creative cuisine, masterminded by head Chef and culinary visionary Brian Massie. Our menu features classic American dishes which are prepared with top notch ingredients and usually feature a creative twist.

Likewise, our dessert menu manages to make familiar recipes taste new again. In browsing the dessert menu, you’ll definitely see items which sound familiar. However, with our chefs’ incredible prowess and creativity, these classic dishes feature unexpected flavors and beautiful presentation that brings pure joy back into the dessert course.

The cakes of Hearthstone. Given that National Cake Day is just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the creative cakes on the Hearthstone menu. Here’s a description of each one, with suggestions for pairing it with the perfect beverage!

Dark Chocolate Birthday Cake: If you are what you eat, be rich and sweet! That might as well be the tagline for this incredible cake, which tastes great whether it’s your birthday or not. In spite of its joyfully nostalgic appearance, this cake is not to be confused with the store bought or mix-made cakes of your childhood. This crave-worthy cake contains dark chocolate ganache, and a sweet and salty american buttercream frosting. It’s got the perfect amount of childhood glee combined with grown-up sophistication. Listen, the menu says “enough for 3,” but let’s just get one thing straight: Hearthstone is a no-judgment zone. If you wanna get cake-drunk, it’s your prerogative.

Drink pairing: The very words “birthday cake” put us in a party sort of mood, so we suggest pairing this cake with bubbles! Our menu features a number of different options, including sparkling wine, champagne, and a Moscato D’Asti (sparkling white wine produced mainly in the province of Asti, north-west Italy).

Honey Olive Oil Cake: If you prefer a cake that’s a little bit different, you’ll love our honey olive oil cake. Olive oil makes the cake light in texture, but imparts a rich, nutty, fascinating flavor which works beautifully with the sweetness of honey. It’s a surprisingly complex flavor, yet accessible and familiar at the same time. We serve this elegant cake with blood orange sherbet, which adds a pleasing zingy contrast to the mellow flavor the cake, and top it off with a healthy dollop of whipped cream. This cake is so good, you won’t want it to end!

Drink pairing: One of the bubbly options mentioned in the Dark Chocolate Birthday Cake description would also work well with this cake. However, it also works well with a Rosé, which picks up on the flavor nuances of this cake.

Peanut Butter Lava Cake: Here’s a fun fact: in addition to November 26 being National Cake Day, the entire month of november is designated as National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month. That means that November is the perfect time to enjoy a cake that contains peanut butter! Our peanut butter lava cake is similar in concept to a chocolate molten cake, but in our opinion, even more rich, decadent, and more satisfying. Once cut into, it oozes a delectably gooey filling, which makes it as fun to behold as it is to eat. Made with butterscotch and roasted banana and served with brown butter ice cream, this is truly a dreamy creamy dessert if there ever was one!

Drink pairing: While this dessert will pair well with the sparkling wine options detailed in the previous cake descriptions, it also pairs well with a perhaps unexpected beverage accompaniment: beer! Our unique Wells Banana Bread Fruit Ale picks up the sweetness and works well with the richness of this dessert.

Milk Chocolate Soufflé: Soufflé is like pudding in the middle and cake on the edges. If you ask us, cake-like on the edges means it deserves honorary cake status and is suitable for National Cake Day! Our lovely milk chocolate soufflé is served with almonds, chocolate chips, and coffee creme anglaise. To say it’s addictive would be an understatement: You’ll want to lick the bowl!

Drink pairing: Like the previous cakes, this chocolate dessert works beautifully with bubbles. However, it’s also decadently naughty when served with a pour of rich, flavorful bourbon as well!

At this point, we’re pretty sure that you’re ready for dessert (possibly even before ordering dinner). Come taste these incredible cakes for yourself at Hearthstone Kitchen and Cellar. From Vegas happy hours to decadent dessert, we’ve got plenty of tempting options to make your evening out a special event.
