Hearthstone’s Favorite Fun Facts About Lobster

Did you know that there is such a thing as National Lobster Day? There is, and here at Hearthstone (where we love all things lobster) it is one of our favorite food holidays. National Lobster Day is actually on September 25th and in honor of National Lobster Day, we’ve decided to create a list of our favorite fun facts to celebrate this holiday.

  1. The creamy green stuff inside the lobster (you know the delicious stuff we’re talking about) is called tomalley.
  2. Lobsters aren’t red until they are cooked. They naturally are green, yellow or bright blue!
  3. Maine lobsters are some of the most popular types of lobster to eat. They are the lobsters with the big, meaty claws.
  4. Spiny Caribbean lobsters do not have claws. These are the lobsters that are sold mainly for the tails. In fact, when you order lobster tails you are likely getting this type of lobster.
  5. Lobsters don’t scream when you cook them—that is an urban legend. In fact, lobsters don’t even have lungs or vocal cords. That noise you hear is actually air that is trapped in the stomach that is being forced through the mouth and makes the noise.
  6. Lobster meat is a huge source of protein. In fact, it has about 28 grams of protein per cup and is virtually void of bad fat. This means lobster is not only delicious, but it is healthy as well.
  7. Lobsters can actually get much bigger than people think. Most lobsters that are caught and sold for meals, are actually the perfect “medium” size. Lobsters can get as big as four feet long or weigh as much as 40 pounds.
  8. Lobsters are not only full of protein, but they are also filled with omega-3 fatty acids which are super heart healthy and great for the cardiovascular system.
  9. Hearthstone has one of the best National Lobster Day events in town. This is our favorite fun fact about lobster (although we may be biased). In honor of this national holiday, we are hosting a National Lobster Day special on Tuesday, September 25th. From 5 PM-10 PM we will have a special on our famous lobster boil. We are offering our lobster boil for just $26.
